A Palynotaxonomic Study of Pyrus species

Abstract
Morphology of pollen surface for ten Pyrus species investigated under a scanning electron microscope was tricolporate, and striate.
Since the surface sculpturing was striate, on the basis of the shape and arrangement of striae, the following groups were distinguished.
Pyrus serotina species, in which ridges were long and the top of striae had a round structure. Pyrus ussuriensis species, in which ridges were long and relatively narrow and the top of striae were round, and in which Braes were porous.
Pyrus communis `Dana Hovey,¢¥ in which ridges were relatively wide and, in which Braes tended to be shallow.
Pyrus calleryana, in which ridges were the most wide and the top of striae was flat. Pyrus serotina `Danbae¢¥ originated by a hybridization between Pyrus serotina `Jangsiblang¢¥ and Pyrus ussuriensis `Cheongsilli¢¥ according to the ridges and the pores along the ridges, assumed to be resembled in the character of surface sculpture of its parents.
